FAQ
Where are sessions held?
Sessions can take place really anywhere! If you have a specific location request, we most likely can accommodate that. Some of my most popular spots around the greater Birmingham area include Avondale Park, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Morris Ave / Richard Arrington Bridge, Tannehill State Park, Railroad Park, Buck Creek Park / Old Town Helena, Moss Rock Park, Oak Mountain State Park, and the University of Montevallo.
I also love some ‘off the beaten path’ type of places as well, including Jemison Trail in Mountain Brook, Chace Lake Park in Hoover, Hillsboro Trail in Helena, Ross Bridge, Highland Park and Forest Park areas, local city parks and trails, “the gates” lookout view, and various hidden gems around downtown Birmingham, just to name a few. I’ve also been known to find cool fields or alleys that make really cool photo backgrounds, but that you would never guess we were - just in a random spot!
We could also choose a spot(s) that is special to you- a bar or coffee shop that you first met your partner at, a park or outdoor space that you grew up in, or even in your own home or backyard! The options really are endless. I’ve also had clients want to travel outside the normal Birmingham area, and that’s okay too! We can certainly work out the details to make your photo dreams come true. Between both of us chatting through what kind of vibe you want your photos to have, we will pick the best place for your session.
When are sessions held?
For outdoor sessions, I’m such a sucker for golden hour and love to shoot at that time of day! Depending on what type of session you book, we would work backwards from the official sunset time to determine the time to start your session. For example, if you are booking a full session and the sunset time is at 7pm, we would meet around 5:45pm to begin. If you’re booking a mini session, we would meet around 6:15pm. Hopefully that helps in planning your day!
If we are shooting indoors (most specifically for in home newborn sessions or if we are renting a studio or venue), mid morning to mid afternoon is usually best for the most light coming through windows. Anytime between 10am-1pm works for a starting time, based on your schedule.
Full sessions are available seven days a week, including weekends. Mini sessions are only available for weekends on select dates during marathon days, and otherwise are only available to book on weekdays, Monday-Friday.
These are our current upcoming mini session marathon dates:
• March 1st
Birmingham Botanical Gardens Greenhouse
• March 14th
Morris Avenue Downtown Birmingham
• March 22nd-25th
Panama City Beach Dog Beach Pier OR
Panama City Beach Conservation Park OR
Pier Park Pier
• April 18th
Location TBD (wildflower field or similar vibe)
• May 3rd
Birmingham Botanical Gardens Rose Gardens
What’s your turn around time?
After your session, you’ll receive an online proofing gallery within 1-2 weeks of your session date. You’ll have around 75+ proofs from a mini session and around 125+ proofs from a full session. Once you receive your proofing gallery, you will have five days to choose your digital images from the proofing gallery that are included with your portrait collection. If you choose to purchase more, this is the time to choose these as well. Once I have received your selections, I will do any minimal touch up needed on the images of your choice, and then you will receive a downloadable gallery with your selected images within 72 hours. You will also have your print release in the gallery, and potentially some black and white copies of your images as well. You can download and save the images to your favorite devices and share and print as you’d like! All in all, from session to delivery, the total wait time is roughly 2-3 weeks.
What should we wear?
Things I love: coordinated colors (neutrals, jewel tones, pick a pop of color to incorporate), layered articles of clothing, outfits that really show who YOU are
Thins I don’t love: overly patterned materials, big logos / graphic tees, completely matching outfits (don’t worry, we’re not JC Penney, you don’t have to wear a white button down and jeans all together!), anything you feel uncomfortable in
You can be as casual or fancy as you prefer! If you have some ideas about particular outfits and need advice, I’m just a text away!
Would you suggest a full session or a mini session?
It’s really up to you and how many images you’d like to have, but some session types are better than others for certain things. A mini session is great for a quick yearly updated family portrait, if you have small children that may not last as long while shooting, or headshots. A full session is a must for extended family and newborn sessions. For everything else, we can make it work for either one!
Can we bring our dog?
Absolutely! I totally get that our furry friends are just as much a part of the family. Certain locations won’t be available with dogs, and they must remain on a leash at all times. Your dog must be well behaved in order to get photos with them. Be sure to bring some treats with you to help keep their attention as well!
We’re ready to book! What happens next?
Yay! I’m so excited to make some magic with you. Let’s chat and nail down a date and location. Half of your session fee ($100 for a mini session, $200 for a full session) is required to reserve your spot on my calendar and can be paid via Venmo or PayPal. The remaining balance will be due on the day of your session and can be paid the same way or also by credit card or cash.
Have any more questions? Please don’t hesitate to reach out! I can’t wait to work with you.
